Institutional Repositories
(taken from Wikipedia)
An Institutional Repository is an online locus for collecting, preserving, and disseminating (in digital form), the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution.
The four main objectives of institutional repositories are:
- To collect content in a single location
- To create global visibility for an institution's scholarly research
- To provide open access to institutional research output by self-archiving it
- To store and preserve other institutional digital assets, including unpublished or otherwise easily lost ("grey") literature (e.g., theses or technical reports).
Added value of subject repositories
Subject repositories are a logical next step in the development of services offered via academic repositories because they allow optimal use of the repository infrastructure and content and at the same time, offer a valuable specialized service to the users.
Benefits for researchers and users
- A central portal for performing subject related academic searches
- Increased visibility of high quality (Grey) Literature
- Immediate access to the full-text of documents
Benefits for Ivy Academic Search partners
- Assistance and encouragement in the start-up and development of a repository
- Extending your portfolio of (repository) services
- Increased exposure for research results, which in turn positively affects citations
- Partnership with a highly respected international Veterinary Faculty (Utrecht University)
Mission
The primary long- term goal of Ivy Academic Search - Veterinary Science & Medicine is to provide the local, national and international veterinary community with a high-quality academic information search and retrieval system for veterinary research.
After the pilot phase of this project, the service will continue to be developed by identifying new and relevant sources of academic content, harvesting those sources and thus growing the high-quality content of our database.
We encourage anyone who knows of a non-participating academic, open access, veterinary repository or database to contact us.
We also encourage you to place a link to Ivy Academic Search - Veterinary Science & Medicine on your faculty pages, library resources page and personal website.
Do you know of an academic, open access, veterinary repository or database that is not listed here? Please send the name of the repository/database along with contact details to our content manager.
